Russ Taylor’s background in the forest industry started in 1974 and encompasses forestry, manufacturing, marketing and consulting positions. Mr. Taylor has been responsible for forestry operations as well as various mill management activities, such as log purchasing, custom cutting, value-added remanufacturing and new product development. As well, Mr. Taylor has gained expertise in market analysis of lumber and specialty products throughout North America and overseas, holding positions in sales, marketing and remanufacturing at three divisions of International Forest Products Limited (Interfor).
As an established forest industry consultant and analyst, Mr. Taylor combined his two leading edge companies in 2005 to create International WOOD MARKETS Group Inc. Mr. Taylor brings his production, marketing and woods expertise to bear in such areas as strategic and business planning, product and market development, and global assessments. His particular talents lie in market and strategy development for commodity and specialty wood products, forecasting (supply, demand, prices; 1-20 years), benchmarking and strategic planning.

Continued on with managing the Vancouver office of FEA where similar work to WOOD MARKETS was conducted.
Conducted projects in many aspects of the wood products industry and in global regions with a focus on market and industry research, global forest products analysis, strategic planning, benchmarking and forecasting. He was also the Publisher of eight strategic, global industry and market reports, including Wood Markets Monthly newsletter.
Managed a variety of forest industry assignments for various clients in Canada, the U.S. and overseas. Completed over one hundred projects.
Progressed through four positions in three divisions specializing in sales, marketing, custom cutting, production and manufacturing.
- Sales and Marketing Manager, McDonald Cedar
Directed sales and remanufacturing personnel through a major sawmill and product line expansion. Developed and implemented Interfor’s first North American marketing plan, involving annual sales of $60 million.
- Manager, Log Custom Cut and Remanufacturing Division
Accountable for all log purchases, sawmill and remanufacturing contracts, cutting plans, inventories, sales and marketing. Achieved a 90% increase in sales and profitability.
- Sales Representative, Silvertree Division
Initiated and expanded the custom remanufacturing and value-added program to diversify the mill’s cedar program.
Planned and implemented a resource survey on private forest land to provide recommendations to the government.
Achieved three positions culminating at the level of Operations Forester. Directed forestry, engineering and planning functions, and undertook liaison with the government on forest tenures and stumpage.
